Ammar Yassir (Omdurmán, 2005) es un fotógrafo y videógrafo sudanés que ha centrado su obra en documentar las historias humanas vinculadas a la actual guerra que se vive en el país desde el 15 de abril de 2023. Trabajando en este campo ha sido el galardonado más joven en recibir el Ian Parry Grant de Fotoperiodismo. Su trabajo también se ha publicado en varios medios como UNDP Sudan, DIE ZEIT, Zenith, Stereo y Autre Magazine. Su obra ha sido expuesta en Italia, Dinamarca y Uganda, país en el que reside actualmente como refugiado. Ha trabajado como freelance para AFP documentando la vida diaria de las personas en el campamento de Renk, en Sudán del Sur, donde él mismo se vio desplazado junto a su familia. Estas experiencias han nutrido su habilidad para crear narrativas que van más allá del inmediato caos de la guerra, centrándose a su vez en la resiliencia y en las escenas cotidianas de las comunidades migrantes.
En su serie I Will Never Find Home, comenzada en mayo de 2023 en Um Ruwaba, ciudad natal de sus padres y primera parada en su huida de la guerra cuando esta llegó a Jartum, plasma en primera persona el significado de inmigración desde la crudeza del desplazamiento interno, la migración forzosa y la búsqueda de refugio. Utilizando el imaginario y el archivo fotográfico de su padre, que existe desde que toda la familia emigrara a Qatar durante la infancia de Ammar, hace un recorrido por la memoria de las ciudades por las que ha pasado y en las que intentó encontar un hogar. En su obra tiene lugar una búsqueda de un estado de permanencia y esperanza por conseguir una nueva oportunidad para finalmente encontrar un lugar al que llamar “casa”.

Ammar Yassir (Omdurman, 2005) is a Sudanese documentary photographer and filmmaker specialized in documenting stories related to the ongoing conflict in Sudan. Working in this field, he had been commended as the youngest Ian Parry Grant of Photojournalism grantee. He was able to document daily life within the Renk Refugee Transit Camp. These experiences have strengthened his ability to craft narratives that go beyond the immediate chaos of war, focusing instead on the resilience and daily lives of displaced communities. His work has also been published by UNDP Sudan, DIE ZEIT, Zenith, and The Continent Magazine, and exhibited in Uganda, Switzerland, Spain, France, Italy, Denmark, Qatar, and Egypt.
In his series “I Will Never Find Home,” begun in May 2023 in Um Ruwaba, his parents’ hometown and the first stop on their flight from war when it reached Khartoum, he captures in first-person detail the meaning of immigration through the harshness of internal displacement, forced migration, and the search for refuge. Using his father’s imagery and photographic archive, which has existed since the entire family emigrated to Qatar during Ammar’s childhood, he explores the memory of the cities he has passed through and in which he tried to find a home. His work depicts a search for a state of permanence and hope for a new opportunity to finally find a place to call “home”.
